The General Education Committee's proposal to revise the Fine Arts requirement in general education passed first reading in College Senate on 28 April 2009. The proposal would allow students to count three semesters of sustained participation in an approved ensemble or practicum as the equivalent of one approved three-credit course in Fine Arts.

Voting on the amended motion regarding writing in general education ended on April 22. The motion passed by a vote of 13-2. (One vote was shared by the two members representing Critical Writing and Reading.)
