Getting Help

During move‐in days (Friday‐ Saturday), the CIT HelpDesk will be open in South Hall 225 for one‐on‐one assistance with connecting your computer to our wired and wireless networks. You may also call our HelpDesk at 585-245-5588.

Wireless Network Setup

The SUNY Geneseo wireless network is based on IEEE 802.11 technology, also called "WiFi." This standard allows us to provide networking to computers over radio frequencies in the unlicensed 2.4 GHz and 5.2 GHz ranges. Our wireless network is comprised of "access points" manufactured by Cisco.

Be sure to select the SUNY Geneseo network with your computer or other wireless devices. Wireless printers and personal wireless routers will not work on our network.

Detailed information about Geneseo WiFi can be found at

In Your Room - Connecting via Ethernet

  1. Plug your computer into the ethernet jack provided in your room using an ethernet cable. If you do not have the necessary cable, you can purchase one in the campus store. Boot up your computer.
  2. Enter your Geneseo account username and password to provide 802.1x network authentication.
  3. If your Windows computer does not prompt you for Network Authentication, open a web browser (IE, Firefox, or Safari) to begin the process to enable 802.1x
    1. Detailed directions for enabling 802.1x can be found at Residential Network (ResNet) - Enable 802.1x on Supported Devices
