Encryption provides strong protection by making data inaccessible to those without proper access credentials. Persons with any sensitive information on their computer or who own a laptop computer should computer should use encryption to keep their files secure. As with any encryption, it is very important to never lose the password or it would be impossible to access that data without it.
All laptops subsequent to the issuance of this policy will be encrypted by default. College-owned desktops in public areas or those with sensitive data will also be required to enable encryptioncollege owned/state owned devices provided directly to employees of the college will be encrypted. Windows computers will utilize BitLocker; Mac computers will utilize FileVault 2. CIT will maintain a secure database of encryption recovery keys.
