Use this page to discuss any and all issues related to the progressive or developmental aspect of the English major. Our current major requires students to take English 170 before taking any 300-level course. There are no other prerequisites. This makes the major relatively "flat," with hardly any progressive or developmental structure. Some questions to consider here:

  • Should the major be more developmental? Do we need more prerequisites? How about a capstone?
  • Does Beth's suggested framework provide enough developmental structure?
  • Do you have any suggestions of your own for how to build adequate development into a ten-course English major?
