From the CIO

by Sue Chichester, CIO

I am pleased to present this annual report for Computing & Information Technology for the 2017-2018 academic year. Our annual report provides us with the opportunity to reflect on how we served the College this past year and to share with the College the work we have accomplished in support of the College mission.

This year we worked collaboratively with our community to offer new services, maintain existing services and infrastructure while looking towards the future.  For Fall of 2018, the Canvas Learning Management System was fully implemented.

“Canvas has been an excellent platform for my online course: PLSC 221 - Democratization in Red Hook. The Rich Content Editor allows me to design discussion boards and assignments using multi-media sources, and provides students with the opportunity to be creative in their responses.” −Karleen West, Assistant Professor, Political Science & International Relations

Challenges such as Excelsior Scholarship and response to an OCR web accessibility complaint also required our focus. New fiber for half the campus and completion of a several year VoIP project highlighted 2018. Much of our time was also spent on thankless tasks that are incredibly important for the College's functionality such as upgrading to Banner 9, Drupal 8 upgrade and an SQR conversion. For our students, we completed a number of important initiatives that provided better and faster wireless coverage across campus, better access to printing and learning space upgrades. A more detailed account of our efforts can be found in the Goals & Progress 2017-2018 section of this report.

What may not be evident in the pages of this report is the passion that CIT staff bring to their work every day. We feel a deep responsibility to this extraordinary College and it is a joy to be able to work with our engaged community.
