Follow these instructions to setup VPN on a Windows 8.1 or newer computer. The Cisco VPN client is no longer required.

VPN will not work while connected to the "Geneseo Guest" wireless network.

Instructions

  1. Press the Windows key on your keyboard.
  2. Type/search for setup a connection
  3. Select Connect to a workplace
  4. Select Use my Internet connection (VPN)
    1. Enter these values:
      1. Internet Address: asa.geneseo.edu
      2. Destination Name: Geneseo VPN
      3. Check Remember My Credentials. Leave the other boxes unchecked.
      4. Click Create.
  5. We now need to change some settings for the connection. Get to the Network Connections screen this way:
    1. Press the Windows key on the keyboard, then start typing Network and Sharing Center. Select it from the list.
    2. Click Change Adapter Settings on the left.
  6. In the new window, you should see Geneseo VPN
     
  7. Right click and Choose Properties
  8. Click on the Security Tab and change the following settings:
    1. Type of VPN: Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol with IPSec (L2TP/IPSec)
    2. Click on the circle next to: Allow These Protocols
      1. Microsoft CHAP Version 2 (MS-CHAP v2) should be the only thing checked.
  9. Click on the Advanced settings button at the top right.
    1. Click in the circle next to: Use preshared key for authentication
    2. Key: geneseo
  10. Click OK. Then click OK again to close the VPN Properties window. Close any other windows that you have open.

Connecting to VPN

To connect to the Geneseo VPN:

  1. Click your internet connection icon on the right side of your Task Bar (very bottom of your screen).
  2. In the Networks list, click on Geneseo VPN
  3. Enter your credentials as:
    1. Username:your Geneseo username (the first part of your email address before the "@geneseo.edu)    **(DO NOT specify the domain like this:  GENESEO\username)**
    2. Password: your Geneseo (email) password
  4. Click on OK.
