VPN Required

This software does require a Virtual Private Networking (VPN) to function

Steps for macOS

  1. Download SpartanStudentV803 from software.geneseo.edu
  2. Once the file finishes downloading, navigate to your downloads folder and open the .dmg
  3. Drag Spartan Student V8 into Applications.
  4. Open Spartan Student from either Applications or Launchpad.
  5. Click Accept to accept the license agreement.
  6. Click OK. Enter your administrator password in the dialogue that follows.
  7. Spartan Student will now open fully. A dialogue for licensing the software will pop up. Click Launch License Utility.
  8. Select the radio button for Network, then click Next.
  9. Before the license server can be entered, the Sentinel Installer has to run.

    1. Click Next/Continue until you reach the license agreement page. Agree to the license.
    2. Click Continue.
      1. For users of macOS 10.15 (Catalina), a message will pop up saying that a System Extension has been blocked. Click Open System Preferences.
      2. Click the Lock and enter your administrator credentials.
      3. Click Allow next to the blocked system extension.
      4. Click the Lock and close System Preferences.
    3. Once the installation has finished, return to the Spartan installer and click Next.

  10. Enter spartanlic.geneseo.edu into the box for the license server. Click Next. The software should now be licensed and ready to use.

    1. If Spartan says "A valid license was not found", try clicking Check License.
    2. If that does not work, click Launch License Utility. Replace spartanlic.geneseo.edu with 137.238.2.85
    3. If that still does not work, click Check License again. The software should find the license and become available for use.

Steps for Windows

You may wish to restart your computer before following the steps below, occasionally the license utility fails to install due to a pending reboot.


  1. Download SpartanStudentInstaller803.exe from software.geneseo.edu
  2. Once the file finishes downloading, navigate to your downloads folder and double click on SpartanStudentInstaller803
  3. If you are prompted with "Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?" click Yes
  4. On the welcome screen click Next.
  5. Read the license terms, then check the box to accept the license agreement, then click Next.
  6. Click Install.
  7. When the Wavefunction License Utility opens, select Network, then click Next.
  8. On the welcome screen click Next.
  9. Read the license agreement, then select the option to Accept the license agreement, then click Next.
  10. Click Next.
  11. The Sentinel installer will now run, click Finish when it completes.
  12. When the Wavefunction License Utility opens again, type spartanlic.geneseo.edu into the License Server field, then click Next
  13. When you see the notification "Successfully set server to "spartanlic.geneseo.edu" click Done
  14. Click Next
  15. Click Finish
  16. Spartan Student is now installed.

Notes

  1. Spartan will only be able to connect the license server if you have a working campus internet connection. If you are located off-campus, you must establish a VPN connection in order for Spartan to launch.
  2. Spartan is not available on the Chromebook platform, if you need access from one of those devices please try using the Geneseo Virtual Computer Lab
  3. This license expires annually in the month of May
