To prevent unauthorized access to SUNY Geneseo computer systems, Geneseo accounts must be changed at least once every 180 days.Users must also practice proper password management such as:

  • never share a computer account
  • never use the same password for more than one account
  • never tell a password to anyone
  • never write down a password
  • never communicate a password by telephone, email, or messaging
  • log off or secure the screen before leaving a computer unattended
  • change passwords whenever there is a suspicion they have been compromised


Password must meet the following complexity requirements:
  • Your new password must contain at least 8 characters
  • Your new password must contain 3 out of the following character types:
    • Uppercase
    • Lowercase
    • Number
    • Special character
  • Your new password must not contain your username
  • Your new password must not contain a word longer than 2 characters from your name in our systems
  • Your new password must not match any of your previous 10
