This self-help document is intended for:
Before you travel
- Review your MFA options and ensure that you have multiple options registered.
- If you only have cellular network-based options registered (call and/or text), ensure that at least one other option, such as an authenticator app or browser extension, is added.
- Consider changing your default MFA option to one of your non-cellular network-based options.
- Be sure to bring the associated device (smartphone for app, laptop for browser extension) with you on your travels.
Logging in while abroad
- After entering your username and password at the login screen, you will be prompted with your default MFA option, for example a Microsoft Authenticator push notification.
- Click I can't use my Microsoft Authenticator app right now or sign in another way to use one of your other registered options.
- Select the option you wish to try and follow the prompts.
- NOTE: If you have registered for push notifications, you can also use a verification code from the Microsoft Authenticator app even when you don't have an internet connection on your phone.
