This page is a guide to installing Geneseo network printers to a Windows machine.Physically locate the printer you want to print to. Close all open applications.

There is a label on all Geneseo network printers that gives you the name that you'll need to install that printer. Note the name of the printer. You will need it during the install process. Once you have the name of the printer, follow these steps.

 

Personally-owned Computers

Geneseo Computers (joined to the Geneseo Domain)

Note: When you are prompted for a username and password, enter: "Geneseo\username" (without the quotes) and your Geneseo email password. Check the box labeled Remember my password and click OK.

 

Windows 7 & 8/10

  1. Make sure you are connected to the Geneseo Network.
  2. Windows 7 - Click the Start button (the Windows orb in the bottom left corner of the screen)
    Windows 8/10 - Right-click the Windows Start button in the lower left-hand corner of your screen, click on Run and click in the Open: field.
  3. In the Search/Run box, type \\printers.w2k.geneseo.edu. Click OK.
  4. At the Windows Security prompt, type: Geneseo\username in the username field (username is the text before the "@geneseo.edu" in your email address).
  5. Enter your Geneseo email password in the password field.
  6. Check the Remember my credentials box.
  7. In the \\printers.w2k.geneseo.edu window, find the printer that you wish to install.
  8. Right-click that printer and choose Connect.
  9. When prompted, select Install Driver. An installation box will appear and load the appropriate driver.
  1. Windows 7 - Click on the Start button in the lower left-hand corner of your screen and click in the Search programs and files field.
    Windows 8/10 - Right-click the Windows Start button in the lower left-hand corner of your screen, click on Run and click in the Open: field.
  2. Type \\printers and press the Enter key on your keyboard.
  3. Locate the name of your printer in the window that comes up and double-click the icon.
  4. A blank screen will come up with the name of your printer at the top. Your printer is now set up. You can close that window.

To make sure the printer installed correctly, (Windows 7) click on the Windows Start button in the lower left-hand corner of your screen, then click on Devices and Printers or (Windows 8/10) right-click the Windows Start button in the lower left-hand corner of your screen, then click on Control Panel and then on Devices and Printers. It will show up in this window if it was installed correctly.

To set a printer as your default, right-click on the printer in the Devices and Printers window and select Set as default printer.
