2015 Motion 1. Clarification of Membership in the Faculty
Whereas, the current language in Article II, Section 1 of the Constitution of the Faculty could more clearly define membership in the faculty and
Whereas, how this language aligns with titles in the Board of Trustees Policies is not made explicit, and
Whereas, this may lead to confusion about the eligibility for individuals to vote or serve as representatives, be it
Resolved, that Article II Section 1 of the Faculty Constitution be amended as follows:
Article II: Purposes and Powers of the Governing Bodies
Section 1: The Faculty
b. The teaching faculty shall comprise all full-time and term appointment part-time academic employees (defined in the Policies of the SUNY Board of Trustees as those in the Professional Services Negotiating Unit holding academic or qualified academic rank) whose primary responsibility lies within an academic department or school of the College or the library. Those with part-time temporary appointments are excluded from the teaching faculty. Excluded from the teaching faculty are those Chairs and Deans who have twelve-month appointments and occupy administrative budget lines.
c. The administrative faculty shall comprise all full time and term appointment part-time professional employees (defined in the Policies of the SUNY Board of Trustees as those in the Professional Services Negotiating Unit holding neither academic nor qualified academic rank), as well as academic employees not included in the teaching faculty. Those with part-time temporary appointments are excluded from the administrative faculty.
